Young Maine Readers, a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, supports early literacy and strives to foster a love of reading in Maine’s children. We believe that parents and family members have the power to instill an early love of reading in their young children by reading aloud regularly with them. Through our affiliation with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, a free book is mailed every month to all registered children (birth to 5 years) in York County. After 5 years of membership, each child will have his/her very own library consisting of 60 books! This wonderful service is ABSOLUTELY FREE.
Making a difference: Since our founding in 2003, we have been able to provide over 100,000 free books to a total of 4,357 children in York County, Maine.
Moving Forward: We are here to help support early literacy in Maine and make it easier for our members to build reading traditions with their families. It is through the generous donations of Maine citizens and businesses that Young Maine Readers is able to raise enough money to cover the necessary percentage of the Imagination Library mailing costs. We currently only have members in York County, but we’d love to be able to expand to other counties in Maine. Please contact us or donate if you are able to help.
